Breath of Fire (Prints $30)

This 11” x 14” piece features Painted Bats (or butterfly bats,) which live throughout Southeast Asia, and are rarely seen.

My drawings & paintings are usually very still, which to me feels calming and grounding. This time I was feeling drawn towards motion and something a little more chaotic. The paradox of living in stillness during lockdown (and working from home,) while feeling like the world around me has gone mad has stirred up quite a feeling. The visual of a bright, colorful, but rarely seen animal seemed fitting to me.
